Fluorescent light fixtures are covered by a diffuser to reduce glare. This cover must be removed before replacing the lamp or installing a new reactor. The hardest part of removing the lid is simply to reach the equipment, especially if you are working in a commercial building with high ceilings. Be sure to use a sturdy ladder and have someone else on hand to steady it if necessary.
How to Remove the Cover of a Fluorescent Lamp Fixture
Place a ladder under the lamp. Do not place the ladder directly below the equipment as this will make it difficult to work with your arms stretched over your head. Instead, leave the ladder a few inches away from one end of the device.
Disconnect power to the luminaire. You can also turn off the circuit breaker that controls the room to ensure there is no power to power it.
Look for a set of retaining clips or screws that secure the card to the rest of the luminaire. Loosen the clamps or remove the screws, whichever is applicable for your luminaire. Now you can remove the cover to change the lamp or work on the luminaire.
