It would be the perfect opportunity to put an end to that ingredient, which you brought happily from the supermarket, used once and left in half, for an upcoming occasion.
You are an organized person, who separates all the material before putting your hand in the dough, after all, you do not want to get in the middle of the recipe and realize that you do not have enough eggs. Or flour. Here begins a horror film: the pot of grains is infested with flying creatures.

How do I know that I am harboring unwanted residents in my kitchen?
- Look for cocoons in the cracks in the cupboards or near the lid of the pots. The moth is making a very thin web, looks like cotton. Normally, the web does not appear in the food but it is quite easy to see on surfaces.
- Furinhos in packages: indicate that there passed “people” that we do not want.
- If you gave the “lucky” to find the moth flying through the kitchen, congratulations! You’ve been rewarded with an infestation! Search all pots of farinaceous seeds, seeds, grains, dried fruits. Even feed the animals if you have them. It’s for examining everything.
How to avoid moths in your pantry?
- Give a general wardrobe at least once a month. In this screening, take the opportunity to give a check on the validity of the food and check for holes in the packages or even small animals giving a sign of life.
- Remove all items that are stored in the cabinets & pantry. The spaces must be empty so that the correct cleaning is done. With a sponge or damp cloth, also use detergent and then let it dry well.

- Can you get away with this little problem? They say yes! Make a “sachet” with blackheads and laces or tie with string. I wore jewelry bags and it was super cool. It scared even an ant.
- Tip of professionals: it is recommended to leave the packages (bean, rice, etc) 24h in the freezer as soon as you bring them from supermarkets or branch stores. This way, you kill the moth’s larvae at low temperature. Then just store in the pots as usual.
- It’s hard to keep an organized kitchen, with everything in the scheme. It is easier to administer ingredients that you use more, such as flours, beans, rice … Usually, there are those that are forgotten the longest (I threw a whole canjica package out because of this) and these are the first to “pet.” From losing so much material, I started to get a little freaked out with this housekeeping thing and at least once a week I take a look at the shelves, to see if everything is in order. That’s how I’m getting rid of the moths here in the kitchen.
